Eggs, a food that has been part of our diet for years, have been continuously criticized and examined. In the past, this food was criticized for its cholesterol content, but in recent years it has been recognized as one of the beneficial foods.
Nutritional Value of Eggs
Eggs are not only a source of high-quality protein but also contain about 70 to 72 kilocalories of energy and 6 grams of protein. The protein in eggs provides all 9 essential amino acids that the body cannot produce on its own. Dr. Elham Akhtari, a specialist in traditional medicine and a university professor, emphasizes that eggs are also a source of choline, which is vital for brain and nervous system function.

Cholesterol Accusation
One of the biggest accusations against eggs is their cholesterol content, which is about 186 milligrams per large egg. However, recent studies have shown that the relationship between dietary cholesterol and blood cholesterol is much more complex than previously thought. The American Heart Association has also emphasized that focusing solely on dietary cholesterol is not enough, and other factors also play a role in increasing the risk of heart disease.
In fact, for healthy individuals, consuming one egg a day has not been associated with an increased risk of heart disease in many studies. However, for individuals with dyslipidemia or diabetes, personal consultation is essential, and the amount of egg consumption should be carefully considered.
The egg white contains almost all the protein and is cholesterol-free. However, removing the yolk means losing a significant portion of nutrients. Therefore, fear of the yolk alone cannot be a reason to eliminate it.
The choice between white and brown eggs depends more on taste and price, and the color of the yolk is not, in itself, a criterion for judging nutritional quality. For this reason, nutritionists emphasize the importance of overall eating patterns and say that attention should be paid to the overall composition of the diet.
Ultimately, eggs are a nutritious food that can be part of a healthy diet when consumed in moderation. Instead of simply labeling foods, we should pay attention to the complexities of the diet.
