Drinking tea, whether matcha tea for morning energy or chamomile tea for relaxation before sleep, is an integral part of the daily routine for many people. Recent studies have shown that tea can help maintain cardiovascular health.

Tea and Vessel Health

Dr. William Schutze, a vascular surgeon and vice president of the Society for Vascular Surgery, emphasizes the importance of vessel health, stating: "If we compare veins and arteries to highways or rivers, any traffic or obstruction in the flow can cause problems." Undiagnosed or untreated vascular diseases can have serious and life-threatening consequences, such as heart attacks or strokes.

Vascular diseases refer to a group of disorders that affect normal body function by reducing blood flow. According to statistics, about 40 million people in the United States suffer from some form of vascular disease.

Benefits of Tea in Reducing the Risk of Vascular Diseases

A study published in the Internal Medicine Journal examined the health status of nearly 486,000 Chinese adults over an average of 9 years. The results showed that individuals who regularly drank tea were 11% less likely to be at risk for vascular diseases compared to others. It was also found that consuming 6 to 8 cups of tea daily, especially black tea, was associated with the lowest risk of vascular diseases.

Erin Duffy Stokes, a natural medicine specialist, states that tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant and contains a large amount of polyphenols, particularly flavonoids, with catechins being one of the most important. These compounds are known for their supportive role in maintaining vessel health.

Recommendations for Drinking Tea

To benefit from tea, experts suggest the following four recommendations:

  1. Drinking 2 to 3 cups of tea is sufficient: Although some studies indicate that higher tea consumption has more benefits, drinking 2 to 3 cups of tea daily can also be beneficial.
  2. Including black and green tea in your diet: Both types of tea have a good association with reducing the risk of vascular diseases, but black tea is effective against a wider variety of these diseases.
  3. Paying attention to water temperature: Drinking tea at the right temperature, which is 71 to 85 degrees Celsius for green tea and 93 degrees Celsius for black tea, can reduce the risk of vascular diseases.
  4. Brewing time: Tea should not be brewed for longer than the standard time, as prolonged brewing may reduce the quality and degrade the beneficial compounds of tea.

In conclusion, tea lovers can be pleased with the news that drinking tea not only creates a sense of calm and pleasure but may also have many benefits for body health. By following the mentioned tips, you can maximize the benefits of tea.
