The increase in influenza and COVID-19 cases in Iran has raised new concerns for health officials. According to published statistics, in the thirtieth week of the current year, the percentage of positive influenza cases reached 7.1% and COVID-19 reached 18.3%, indicating an increase in respiratory infection symptoms in the country.
Concerns Among Outpatients and Hospitalized Patients
In the week ending on October 16, 10.7% of outpatients showed flu-like symptoms, and 9.5% of hospitalized patients had severe respiratory symptoms. This data, compared to previous weeks, indicates a relative increase in outpatient cases and a decrease in hospitalizations. However, health officials believe that more preventive measures need to be taken.

Vulnerable Age Groups
One concerning point is that 56.1% of positive influenza cases have been observed in the pediatric age group. Meanwhile, 5.9% of these cases are related to children under 2 years old. The age groups of 2 to 5 years and 6 to 15 years account for 17.3% and 32.9% of positive influenza cases, respectively. This data highlights the need for special attention to these age groups.
At-Risk Provinces
The provinces of Bushehr, Kurdistan, and Kermanshah, with 31%, 13.9%, and 11.9% of positive cases, respectively, are above the warning threshold. Additionally, the provinces of Khuzestan, Fars, Sistan and Baluchestan, Kerman, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, and Isfahan are also above the lower warning threshold. This situation necessitates the intensification of preventive and care measures.
Health officials advise the public to wear masks in high-risk areas and to visit healthcare centers if symptoms occur. Furthermore, public awareness and health education should be strengthened to prevent the further spread of these diseases.
