Nader Behdarafshan, the head of the Tehran Gold and Jewelry Union, addressed the topic of public complaints about buying and selling gold in a television program and emphasized the necessity of awareness and caution in these transactions.
Review of Complaints and Issues of Sellers and Buyers
Behdarafshan noted the process of addressing public complaints, stating: "The expert commission and complaint resolution committee of the union addresses disputes between buyers and sellers on a weekly basis. If a violation is confirmed and the dispute is not resolved, the case is referred to judicial authorities and the government’s punitive measures." He added: "Typically, around 10 to 12 complaints are reviewed by the union each week, which amounts to about 40 cases per month."

Behdarafshan explained that half of these complaints arise from incorrect information or non-expert interpretations regarding gold transactions, while the other part relates to actual issues in weight, calculations, and other transaction-related matters. He emphasized that the complaint resolution commission meets on Sundays with the presence of industry experts to review issues such as overpricing and underpricing.
Emotional Purchases and Their Consequences
The head of the Tehran Gold and Jewelry Union also referred to the increase in emotional purchases during volatile market periods, saying: "At certain points during the war, some people, influenced by concerns about rising prices and advertisements, made purchases and later approached the union to complain after prices dropped. In many cases, the transaction price was in accordance with regulations, and the discrepancy was related to the buyer's emotional decision-making."
He warned about buying gold online, emphasizing: "People should research the credibility of the seller before making a purchase and buy from officially licensed units. Additionally, obtaining a valid invoice and keeping transaction documentation for potential dispute follow-ups is essential."
Behdarafshan also highlighted the importance of purchasing from authorized units, stating: "People should buy gold from gold shops, coins from coin dealers, and jewelry from authorized jewelry stores. The transaction amount should also be deposited into the account of the same unit to ensure the possibility of matching payment and purchase documentation."
In conclusion, he warned about the dangers of buying gold without receiving it physically and urged people to avoid unsupported transactions and purchases based on advertisements and non-expert information.
