Isfahan has been identified as the most polluted point in the country in the latest air quality reports. According to data from the National Air Quality Monitoring System, this province ranks first on the list of the most polluted areas in Iran, having recorded the highest number of unhealthy regions. Alongside Isfahan, Khuzestan province is also recognized as one of the main pollution hotspots.
Air Quality Status of Provinces
Khuzestan, Isfahan, Tehran, and Ilam provinces have been identified among the polluted areas of the country. The main source of pollutants in these regions is particulate matter smaller than 2.5 microns. The Mobarakeh station in Isfahan province, with an air quality index of 183, has been recognized as the most polluted point in the country in the past 24 hours.

In Khuzestan province, the cities of Hendijan, Andika, Shush, Dezful, and four stations in Ahvaz are in unhealthy conditions for all age groups. Additionally, in Isfahan province, areas such as Fooladshahr, Mobarakeh, Khomeini Shahr, Valadan, and Western Baharestan have also experienced unhealthy air.
Analysis of Conditions in Tehran and Other Areas
The situation in Tehran is not much better. The Tehran Cement, Salamat, and Shahriyar stations are in the unhealthy range for all age groups, and the average air quality of this metropolis has shifted from acceptable to unhealthy for sensitive groups. In the south of the country, the air quality index in Assaluyeh reached 161, placing this city in an unhealthy condition as well.
Analysis of the distribution of polluted areas shows that Isfahan, with 6 unhealthy regions, is the most polluted area in the country, while Khuzestan, with 5 polluted cities or points, is considered the second pollution hotspot. These pollutants not only affect human health but can also harm other aspects of life and the environment.
Clean Areas and Hope in Other Regions
In contrast to the polluted cities, clean air is found in the eastern half of the country, with Nikshahr in Sistan and Baluchestan province reporting an air quality index of 20, making it the cleanest city in the country in the past 24 hours. This situation highlights the stark inequalities in air quality across different regions of the country and underscores the urgent need for attention and appropriate action.
Ultimately, the critical air quality situation in Isfahan and Khuzestan serves as a wake-up call for officials and the public to take more serious measures to improve conditions and reduce pollution. Air pollution not only impacts the daily lives of people but also jeopardizes the health of future generations.
