Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, spoke on Friday, October 16, at the seventeenth conference of the members of the Convention on Biological Diversity held in Iran. In this meeting, while emphasizing Iran's commitment to global nature conservation goals, he raised an important issue: countries under sanctions or military aggression should not bear the environmental costs arising from war and sanctions alone.

Iran's Commitment to Nature Conservation

At this conference, Masoud Pezeshkian referred to Iran's commitment to the Convention on Biological Diversity and the country's efforts to preserve the environment. He stated: "Despite numerous challenges, Iran has always strived to maintain biodiversity and sustainably use natural resources." These remarks reflect the importance of nature conservation in Iran's policies.

The Costs of War and Sanctions

Pezeshkian further noted that developing countries, especially those facing war and international sanctions, should receive international support. He added: "Many countries are facing serious environmental problems due to sanctions and wars, and this issue should not be overlooked." His words clearly indicate the need for the international community to pay serious attention to the environmental issues of affected countries.

The President of Iran stated that the environmental costs arising from war and sanctions should be shared internationally, calling for global solidarity in this regard. He also emphasized the necessity of creating supportive mechanisms for affected countries, saying: "We must pay attention to the fact that no country should bear the burden of the costs of war and sanctions alone."

Responding to Environmental Crises

Pezeshkian highlighted the necessity of international cooperation in addressing environmental crises and urged other countries to take practical steps to provide financial and technological resources for affected countries. He added: "Biodiversity and environmental protection are issues that require global cooperation, and no country can handle them alone."

These remarks by the President of Iran come at a time when environmental crises have become one of the most significant global challenges. Especially in recent years, various countries have faced issues such as climate change, pollution, and loss of biodiversity. In this context, Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of international conferences and meetings to discuss and address these issues and called for serious attention to these matters.

In conclusion, the President of Iran urged the global community to collaborate in achieving the goals of the Convention on Biological Diversity and environmental protection, and to assist affected countries in this regard. He stressed that this action would not only benefit these countries but also all of humanity and the planet.
