The impeachment of Alireza Zakani, the mayor of Tehran, has become a hot topic in the City Council. In this regard, Abdolmahtab Mohammadi Khani, the spokesperson for Tehran Municipality, provided details on the matter, answered reporters' questions, and expressed hope that given the current circumstances, it is not an appropriate time to raise these issues.

Municipality Performance and Existing Criticisms

Abdolmahtab Mohammadi Khani, in remarks made in response to reporters, referred to the criticisms from some City Council members and said: "I did not see such clarity in the official statements of any of the members, and I observed this issue more in the media." He added that some council members had considered another option from the beginning and have not been able to adapt to the new conditions.

Defense of Zakani's Performance

Mohammadi Khani also emphasized that considering the overall performance of Tehran Municipality in recent years, especially the achievements of the past year, the timing for raising the impeachment discussions of Zakani is not appropriate. He mentioned: "At least one good and hopeful urban news is communicated to the people every week, and multiple projects are underway."

Among the important projects, he mentioned the Zero Inflation Plan and the "Chehreshani" package, which, according to Mohammadi Khani, are currently being implemented. The inauguration of Shahid Shushtari Highway and the intersection of Sattarkhan Street with Chamran Highway are also on the municipality's agenda.

Need for Cohesion in the City Council

The spokesperson for Tehran Municipality also pointed to the need for cohesion and cooperation among City Council members and said: "This issue cannot be generalized to all respected members of the City Council." This point indicates the diversity of opinions and perspectives among council members, which can influence decision-making processes.

Ultimately, Mohammadi Khani stated that now is not the right time for side issues and called for attention to ongoing projects and positive urban news. It seems that Tehran Municipality is facing various challenges and must strive to respond to the needs of citizens in the best possible way.
