The "Bryson" fire in the Malibu area west of Los Angeles is rapidly spreading and has burned approximately 200 acres (equivalent to 81 hectares) by Thursday evening. This fire started near Encinal Canyon Road and Mulholland Highway, leading to evacuation orders and warnings for large areas of the Santa Monica Mountains.
Fire Threat to Sensitive Facilities
The spread of the fire also threatened a juvenile detention and rehabilitation center in Los Angeles County. This center was evacuated Thursday evening, and surveillance camera images show a large column of black smoke rising over the hills in the area. The American Red Cross is also working to assist evacuees by setting up a shelter at Agora High School in Agora Hills. Additionally, the Agora Animal Care Center has been designated to take in pets of the evacuated individuals.

Power Outages to Prevent Further Wildfires
Meanwhile, firefighters are working to contain two other wildfires in the city of Azusa, north of Los Angeles, and the military base Camp Pendleton near San Diego. These two fires also began Thursday afternoon and have led to evacuation orders. Southern California Edison has reported that over 62,000 customers in Los Angeles and Ventura counties faced power outages by late Thursday night. The company is also reviewing preventive power shutoffs for hundreds of thousands of other customers due to ongoing fire danger warnings.
Pacific Gas and Electric Company in Northern California has also reported that nearly 62,000 customers in 26 counties, including areas in the Sierra Nevada foothills and parts of the central coast, are without power. This action is aimed at preventing deadly wildfires under dry and windy weather conditions.
The National Weather Service has also forecasted that wind speeds will increase overnight, making conditions more challenging for the spread of wildfires. It appears that weather conditions increasing the risk of fire will continue until Saturday.
