The Iranian government introduced fundamental changes in its economic approaches during a meeting of the Economic Coordination Headquarters, which was held to review the wartime conditions of the country's economy. These changes come in the wake of the military aggression of the Israeli regime and the attack by the United States, at a time when the country's economy is effectively in a state of war.
Shifting Priorities in Economic Policies
The most significant change in the government's economic paradigm is the shift of priorities from "economic efficiency and long-term growth" to "maintaining the resilience of the economy, ensuring basic livelihoods, and preserving the stability of the country." In these circumstances, monetary policies alone cannot operate through conventional means such as interest rates or inflation expectations, as markets have lost their functionality and supply chains are breaking down.

Market Management and Strengthening Coordination
A significant part of the meeting was dedicated to analyzing the fluctuations in exchange rates and managing supply and demand. Government economic members emphasized the necessity of strengthening coordination among monetary, trade, and financial policies and proposed coherent and forward-looking decisions as a solution for managing market conditions. Additionally, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance provided a report on the government's financial situation and the requirements for resource management.
The Minister of Agriculture announced during this meeting that there is no shortage of essential goods needed by the country, and the Planning and Budget Organization also presented a 7-item package for managing the current conditions and strengthening the coordination of economic policies. This package is designed to expedite decision-making and the implementation of economic resolutions in wartime conditions.
A proposal was made to create a more agile structure to expedite decision-making and the implementation of economic resolutions. The aim of this proposal is to reduce time-consuming administrative processes and increase the speed of response from economic institutions in wartime conditions. The "Economic War Headquarters," established by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance, is envisioned as an institution for coordinating and accelerating the resolution of economic challenges arising from wartime conditions.
The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council also announced during this meeting that the council is ready for any support and cooperation to advance matters and assist in managing the country's economic conditions. This readiness indicates coordination between security and economic institutions in facing wartime conditions.
