The import of luxury cars has even been halted for Iranians residing abroad. Mohammad Atabak, the Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, announced in a meeting of the Article 90 Commission of the Parliament that based on the President's directive, the possibility of importing luxury cars has been eliminated, and the government's focus is now on providing economical cars.
Halting the import of luxury cars
These statements were made during the meeting on Tuesday, October 7, 1405, of the Article 90 Commission of the Constitution; a meeting dedicated to discussing issues related to the automotive industry, car imports, and other related topics, attended by the Minister of Industry. Atabak mentioned the latest status of luxury car imports, stating that the Ministry of Industry had protested against the 100% tariff on luxury cars in Parliament about two weeks ago, which ultimately led to the halt of imports of this category of cars.

Emphasis on economical cars
The Minister of Industry also announced that by the President's directive, the possibility of importing luxury cars has been halted even for Iranians residing abroad. According to Atabak's explanation, the current government policy is focused on providing economical cars.
In the same meeting, Nasrollah Pezeshkianfar, the head of the Article 90 Commission, warned about the import of expensive cars from the perspective of foreign currency resources and capital outflow. He stated that the limitation of the country's foreign currency resources would put more pressure on the currency market due to the import of luxury cars. Pezeshkianfar also believes that the government's and regulatory bodies' priority should be to provide cars for the middle class and applicants who have a real need for a vehicle.
Another part of the Minister's statements focused on the import of used cars. Atabak pointed out that the prolonged process of importing used cars is due to the need to control the authenticity of the vehicles and obtain approvals from the National Standards Organization and the Environmental Protection Organization, which have made this process time-consuming. However, according to the Minister of Industry, the implementation of the used car import plan has entered the operational phase in the fourteenth government, and currently, less than a thousand used cars have been imported into the country and are in customs.
Atabak expects that the entry of these cars into the market could somewhat moderate prices. The overall statements of the Minister of Industry in this meeting indicate that the government's declared policy at this time is to distance itself from the import of luxury cars and focus more on economical cars. Meanwhile, the issue of used cars is still in the operational path, with less than a thousand of these vehicles currently in the country's customs.
