Shahid Mohammadi Highway, recognized as one of the important thoroughfares in East Tehran, reaches a dead end at the intersection with Basij Highway. However, the construction of the continuation of this highway and its connection to Shahid Shoushtari Freeway can be seen as a major transformation in the road network of the eastern capital. This project is defined in the form of two main projects: "The grade-separated intersection of Basij Highway with Shahid Mohammadi Highway" and "The grade-separated intersection of Hojrat Boulevard with the continuation of Shahid Mohammadi Highway," and it has been given attention during the sixth term of urban management.
Project Timeline and Implementation Challenges
Mahdi Sadaqati, the CEO of the Engineering and Construction Organization of Tehran Municipality, provided explanations regarding the commencement of the grade-separated intersection project of Hojrat Boulevard with Shahid Mohammadi Highway in the year 1404. He emphasized that this project has faced delays due to multiple implementation obstacles and will be seriously pursued from this summer after acquiring the properties of the eastern opponents.

This project includes the construction of a bi-directional bridge over Hojrat Boulevard, the establishment of eastern and western slow lanes of this boulevard, and the implementation of three right turns to ensure necessary access. Sadaqati further referred to the current execution process and stated that after the eastern culvert is constructed, the implementation of the ramp will be prioritized.
Cellular Structure and Its Impact on Citizen Safety
The eastern ramp of this bridge is designed as a cellular structure due to its location over the roof of the Takhti Metro Station and the need to control the imposed load and height restrictions. Sadaqati noted that the implementation of this structure is being carried out for the first time in the construction projects of Tehran Municipality and is accompanied by increased time and cost factors, but maintaining citizen safety is a priority.
He also mentioned the institutional opponents of the western section of the bridge and identified the cooperation of relevant institutions as a facilitator for accelerating the implementation of this project. Sadaqati reported a 20% progress in this grade-separated intersection and access points and expressed hope that the grade-separated intersection of Basij Highway with Shahid Mohammadi Highway would also resume this year if obstacles are removed.
