Mohammad Mahdi Azizi, CEO of the City Guard and Urban Protection Company of Tehran Municipality, announced the launch of a comprehensive program to organize the densely populated areas of street vendors in the capital. This program has been implemented in the past five months in collaboration with the police to improve the traffic conditions for citizens and the activities of businesses.
New Experience in Tajrish
Azizi specifically referred to the Tajrish area and said: "A significant portion of the activities of street vendors in this area has been organized, and now there are no street vendors as before until 9 PM." He also pointed out that some local and long-time individuals may still be present in this area, and in this regard, the management of their activities is being pursued according to social conditions.
Attention to the Livelihood of Street Vendors
The CEO of the City Guard and Urban Protection Company of Tehran Municipality addressed other areas of organization such as Shahrzad and 20 Meter Afshariyeh and said: "The dense presence of pickup trucks in the Shahrzad area and the spread of street vending in 20 Meter Afshariyeh had created problems for citizens' traffic, which has now improved."
Azizi also referred to the dangers arising from the sale of flowers along Hashemi Highway and the roads leading to Behesht Zahra (S), stating that this activity, especially on weekends, increases the risk of accidents and injuries to flower sellers. However, the management of this area during peak hours has improved.
He emphasized the necessity of considering the livelihood conditions of street vendors, adding: "Not all individuals operating in these areas should be evaluated with the same perspective. Some of them depend on these activities to cover their living expenses." Azizi stressed that urban management policies should be such that while maintaining urban order, the economic and livelihood conditions of individuals are also taken into account.
Azizi identified the Haft Tir Square, Enqelab Street, and the Nazi Abad area as points needing further organization and said: "Coordination with the police to provide the necessary support for these programs is underway." The goal of these measures is not to temporarily collect the stalls, but to stabilize the established order.
He concluded by mentioning the area around Pardisan Park and said: "Measures have been taken to manage these spaces, and several other smaller areas are also included in the organization program."
