Reza Kongari, the head of the Foodstuff Wholesalers Union, in recent remarks highlighted the positive impact of the clearance of imported rice on the domestic market. He stated that the volume of imports and previously secured stock has provided assurance to the market, adding: "There is no concern regarding the supply of essential goods."

Price Control through Competitive Supply

Kongari further referred to the government's policies regarding the clearance of imported goods and said: "Allocating currency for rice imports is a very correct and constructive decision to strengthen the supply chain and prevent shortages." He emphasized that if the cleared goods are offered at lower rates compared to the current market price, this could help adjust prices in the market.

Currency Fluctuations and Their Impact on Rice Prices

The head of the Foodstuff Wholesalers Union also mentioned currency fluctuations and said: "Despite the price increases, this increase has remained at a reasonable level and the upward trend in the market is not very severe." He added that imported rice, including Pakistani and Indian varieties, has faced a price increase of 10 to 15 percent due to currency fluctuations.

According to Kongari, the price of Pakistani rice is currently between 190,000 to 195,000 Tomans, and super kernel rice is offered between 290,000 to 295,000 Tomans. Additionally, Indian rice is sold in the range of 260,000 to 295,000 Tomans, while Iranian rice is priced between 340,000 to 520,000 Tomans.

He further added: "The impact of sanctions and geopolitical conditions on maritime transport routes has affected the import of Indian rice, but there is absolutely no shortage felt in the basket of essential goods." He also pointed out the difference in currency rates and stated that the cost price of imported goods contradicts the market rate, which has led to competitive pricing and lower prices being injected into the market.

Kongari concluded by noting that the Wholesalers Union, with careful monitoring of the market and cooperation with specialized commissions, aims to prevent any crisis or shortage in the market, with their main goal being to maintain market stability and ensure that goods reach consumers.
