Reyhaneh Khazaei, a sports medicine specialist, discussed the importance of walking for heart health on the program "Say Hello to Life" and stated: Although slow walking alone may not provide sufficient intensity to improve heart health, it is significantly better than inactivity and can serve as a suitable starting point for the elderly, beginners, and those with mobility limitations.

Everyone Should Walk According to Their Ability

Khazaei further explained that the appropriate intensity of walking varies for each individual and should be adjusted based on a person's physical capacity. She emphasized that the benefits of walking depend on an individual's physical condition, health status, and daily activity level. This sports medicine specialist said: "Walking at a slow pace helps increase daily activity volume and reduces inactivity time."

Gradual Increase in Walking Intensity

Khazaei also explained the impact of moderate to vigorous walking on cardiovascular health and noted that this type of walking may engage the heart and respiratory system more, thus providing greater benefits, but it may not be suitable for everyone. She clarified: "If the goal is to improve cardiovascular health, walking should gradually progress to moderate intensity. If an individual does not have the necessary capacity, they can start at a manageable pace and gradually increase it over time."

She also pointed out that the optimal speed varies for each individual; for example, the speed considered vigorous for an elderly person may be very light for a young person. Khazaei recommended that individuals adjust their walking intensity based on their physical abilities and not solely determine it by following others' speeds.

Reducing Inactivity; The Key to Health

According to Khazaei, individuals should not choose between slow and brisk walking, as they may benefit from both types of walking throughout the day. She identified the most important point as reducing inactivity and making regular physical activity a part of one's lifestyle, stating: "The first step is always important, and that first step should be taken right now for health."

In conclusion, it can be said that walking, whether slow or brisk, can be considered a beneficial activity for improving cardiovascular health, provided that each individual adjusts the intensity and duration based on their physical condition.
