Nasser Rezaei, head of the Natural Heritage and Tourism Research Group at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, stated regarding the role of artificial intelligence in Iran's tourism planning: "Artificial intelligence has become a part of today's life, and we must inevitably make optimal use of this technology in various fields, including tourism." He emphasized the importance of fieldwork and studies, stating that artificial intelligence cannot yet fully replace field research and may provide incorrect information.

The Role of Artificial Intelligence as an Assistant

Rezaei continued: "Even the most advanced versions of artificial intelligence should be used in the role of an assistant, editor, or tool for payment and text and map correction and providing guidance." He believes that artificial intelligence can help increase the quality of work and the speed of activities, but it still cannot convey the feeling and experience gained from field research.

The Necessity of Accurate Planning in Tourism

The head of the Natural Heritage and Tourism Research Group at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage emphasized that tourism, due to its vastness and encompassing various economic, social, cultural, political, and security dimensions, requires a program with a clear framework. He added: "In this regard, visions, strategies, macro and micro goals, as well as short-term, medium-term, and long-term operational plans should be determined based on that framework."

Rezaei emphasized that providing a program or plan to artificial intelligence can quickly access a wide and deep range of information, strategies, programs, and operational steps. He said: "In this field, we need information and realities present in the field; from the tourism value chain and all related sectors to the demand side and existing infrastructure."

He also pointed to the importance of integrating and combining information in determining carrying capacity, marketing, market segmentation, and advertising, saying: "These matters can be organized within a specific framework using the capabilities of cyberspace and especially artificial intelligence."

Rezaei expressed hope at the end that the development of this field requires broader capabilities and added: "Currently, some of these capabilities are monopolized by specific companies in the world. We hope that with the expansion of relations, the possibility of utilizing these capacities will also be provided so that we can turn all the assets of the country into wealth and the people can benefit from it."
