Sudeh Najafi, a member of the Tehran City Council's board, emphasized the need to preserve and protect Tehran's cultural heritage in the 433rd session of this council. She stated, "Tehran needs protection for its historical artifacts more than ever." With these statements, Najafi referred to the importance of maintaining the cultural and historical identity of the city and expressed her concerns regarding the destruction of historical buildings.
The necessity of identifying and protecting valuable artifacts
Sudeh Najafi added, "The destruction of a historical building means losing a part of our history and heritage." She emphasized that cultural heritage must take action to identify valuable artifacts and buildings and communicate this information to the relevant authorities. This statement reflects Najafi's deep concern for preserving Tehran's cultural identity and the need for effective actions to prevent the destruction of historical buildings.

Balance between property rights and heritage value
Najafi further emphasized that the conditions for the destruction of historical buildings should not be created. She stated, "When there are credible documents regarding the historical and architectural value of a building, one cannot claim that its destruction is permissible." According to this member of the council, property rights must be respected, but these rights should not come at the cost of destroying the city's historical heritage.
Najafi also stressed the necessity of cooperation between the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development and other institutions to compensate property owners' rights and added, "Necessary documents must be presented in judicial authorities so that judges can make informed decisions regarding the value of the building." These efforts can help preserve Tehran's cultural and historical heritage and prevent unintended destruction.
The responsibility of the municipality and monitoring at-risk cases
Najafi concluded by highlighting the important responsibility of the Tehran municipality in this regard and called for refraining from issuing demolition orders. She said, "The city of Tehran must follow up on at-risk cases through judicial authorities." Recently, cases of the destruction of historical buildings have been reported to the municipality in District 12, and Najafi has asked the district mayor to investigate this issue. She emphasized, "The preservation of Tehran's heritage must take place before demolition operations are carried out."
