Seyyed Mahdi Bagherian, the director general of the Office of Planning and Writing of Primary and Secondary Textbooks of the Educational Research and Planning Organization, announced significant changes in middle school textbooks during his press conference. These changes are part of a larger plan to reform the educational system and improve educational quality in the country's schools.
The Role of Transformation in the Curriculum
The Educational Research and Planning Organization is redesigning textbooks based on a transformative plan and considering current needs. Bagherian explained that this plan started from the first grade of primary school and has now reached higher grades, including middle school. Last year, all textbooks for the first grade of primary school were changed, and this year, the second-grade primary textbooks have undergone fundamental changes.

In this plan, the structure of the curriculum and its relationship with educational and learning packages have been reviewed, and improvements have been made to the educational structure of schools. Bagherian noted that the goal of this plan is to create a new ecosystem for the curriculum, adding that next year, the third-grade primary textbooks will also be completely redesigned.
Redesign of Defense and Social Studies Textbooks
Bagherian also referred to the changes made in defense readiness and social studies textbooks, stating: "The defense readiness textbook for the ninth grade has been completely redesigned, and new content has been added to this book." These changes have particularly occurred following recent national events and the 12-day war and Ramadan war, and efforts have been made to appropriately reflect various aspects of these events in the textbooks.
The Educational Research and Planning Organization is striving to convey the greatness of national resistance and the epic moments created by the warriors and people of Iran during these events to the students through the design of appropriate learning opportunities.
Bagherian also emphasized that changes in textbooks are not limited to their content and are aimed at achieving educational goals and improving educational quality. "Our goal is to enhance the quality of the curriculum, not just superficial and hasty changes," he added.
In conclusion, Bagherian stressed that all textbooks will be subject to this plan, and no book will be exempt from this process. He added: "When the transformation plan for the curriculum reaches the redesign stage, all subject titles will be included in this process. This includes Persian and religious books, which play a significant role in achieving educational goals."
