Mohammad Javad Khosravi, the mayor of District 22, provided explanations regarding the latest status of Chitgar Forest Park and the actions taken to preserve the trees of this park. Since he began his work in this area, Khosravi has addressed the issue of Chitgar Park as a serious environmental concern. He pointed out that it was anticipated from the very beginning that the trees of the park would face drought issues, which is why a serious decision was made to take action.
The Water Rights of Chitgar Forest Park Have Reached Zero
Khosravi referred to the critical situation of the water rights of Chitgar Forest Park and said: "The greenery and freshness of this park were maintained when its water rights were at least 500 liters per second. However, this amount has now dropped to zero, causing stress in some of the trees. In the late 1990s, about 150 to 200 trees suffered from pests."

Compensatory Measures for the Revival of Chitgar
The mayor of District 22 referred to the compensatory measures taken during this period and said: "A few years ago, we began actions to remove infected and pest-ridden trees. So far, several thousand infected trees have been removed from the park, and by the end of November, other infected trees will also be removed. Additionally, about 40 kilometers of piping for irrigation has been done in the park, and two old wells have been revived."
He added: "Overall, the water rights of the park have increased from zero to 50 liters per second due to negotiations, and we are also utilizing the capacity of the revived wells."
The Water Needs of Chitgar Forest Park
Khosravi, referring to the water needs of Chitgar Forest Park, said: "The minimum water requirement for the park in the eastern and western phases reaches 250 liters per second. In the past, this amount had decreased to 20 to 30 liters per second, and we compensate for this shortfall with tankers. We are also trying to transfer treated wastewater from some other towns to the park."
Development of Green Space with the Planting of New Trees
The mayor of District 22 continued to mention the planting of new trees and said: "For every tree removed from the park, 25,000 trees have been planted so far, and based on a contract signed with the Parks Organization, we will plant about 35,000 more trees from December of this year until May 2026."
He added: "The types of new trees selected are such that they are compatible with Tehran's climate, and these actions are carried out using the knowledge and experience of specialists in the field of natural resources to prevent similar problems in the future."
