Massoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, will meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during his trip to Moscow at the end of October to participate in the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) summit. This trip will provide a suitable opportunity to discuss economic cooperation and important regional issues.

Discussion Topics

Kazem Jalali, Iran's ambassador to Moscow, has announced that the main focus of Pezeshkian's discussions with Putin will be economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. According to him, topics such as the International North-South Transport Corridor, energy security, food security, and the development of trade relations will be discussed during this meeting. Jalali added that the presidents of Iran and Russia have exchanged views on a wide range of issues in recent months.

Expectations from the Meeting

Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, told the President of Iran during his recent visit to Tehran that Putin is looking forward to his presence at the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) summit in Moscow. In this context, a bilateral meeting is also on the agenda. Jalali also mentioned that there is no plan for the two presidents to sign documents during this trip, but geopolitical and international discussions between them will be a focal point.

This meeting, which will take place on November 5, 1405 (October 27, 2026) in Moscow, could be a turning point in Iran-Russia relations. Given recent developments on the international and regional levels, economic and security cooperation between these two countries, especially in the energy sector, has gained special importance.

In recent years, Iran and Russia, as two significant players in the global energy arena, have sought to strengthen their relations. This cooperation is not only beneficial for the two countries but can also contribute to creating stability in the region and ensuring energy security for other countries. Especially in conditions where global crises affect the energy market, closer ties between Tehran and Moscow could benefit all parties involved.
