Jabbar Ali Zakeri announced the increase in suburban train ticket prices and provided explanations regarding the reasons for these changes. According to him, currency fluctuations and the high dependence of the rail transport sector on the supply of parts from abroad are among the main factors for this price increase.
Impact of Currency Fluctuations on Ticket Prices
Zakeri stated that a significant portion of the costs for maintaining locomotives and supplying necessary parts is in foreign currency, adding: "The rail transport industry remains dependent on meeting its needs from abroad, and the passenger sector of this fleet is no exception."

He also referred to the aging of the passenger rail fleet, saying: "To maintain and enhance service capacity, the fleet requires repair and refurbishment." These statements come at a time when suburban train passengers are deeply concerned about the renewed increase in ticket prices.
Trends in Ticket Price Changes
As of Friday, the ticket price with a train card has increased from 16,000 tomans to 22,000 tomans, and the cash ticket price has risen from 25,000 tomans to 35,000 tomans. An examination of the trends in ticket price changes shows that the ticket price with a train card, which was 11,000 tomans at the beginning of the year, gradually rose to 15,000 tomans, then to 16,000 tomans, and finally to 22,000 tomans.
This price increase has led to dissatisfaction and complaints from many passengers. Many of them, due to their daily and continuous use of these trains for commuting to work and home, have reacted to this change and raised many questions.
Passenger Questions and Future Measures
Suburban train passengers, worried about these price increases, are asking why the ticket price has increased several times within a year and what measures have been taken to prevent imposing additional costs on them. In this regard, the CEO of the railway company previously pointed to the dependence on the supply of parts and equipment from abroad and the maintenance costs of locomotives as effective factors on rail transport costs.
As passengers seek solutions to reduce costs, it seems necessary to reconsider pricing policies and improve service delivery to passengers. This issue not only affects passenger satisfaction but could also impact the future of rail transport in the country.
