The Supreme Labor Council has reached an initial agreement regarding the increase in workers' wages for the second half of this year during its recent meetings. This agreement has been achieved amid challenges in implementation and disagreements over how to apply this increase, making the decision-making process difficult.

Agreement on the Principle of Wage Increase

Mohsen Bagheri, a member of the workers' group in the Supreme Labor Council, announced the achievement of an initial agreement on the principle of wage increases. However, he emphasized that disagreements among workers, the government, and employers regarding the implementation of this increase still exist, and this issue has been postponed to the next meeting.

Bagheri stated: "Unlike previous years, this year for the first time, the review of wages is being pursued in six-month intervals, and the principle of the wage increase has been agreed upon." This change in the approach to wage review could have significant positive and negative impacts on the living conditions of workers.

Disagreement Over Implementation Method

Despite the agreement among the three groups (workers, government, and employers) on the "amount" of the increase, there remains a heated debate over the "method of implementation." The main disagreement among the three groups revolves around whether this increase should be applied directly based on wages or whether it should include all wage items.

Bagheri continued: "The workers' group's belief is that the wage increase should not be limited to one sector, but should have a comprehensive form and include all wage levels so that both active workers and retirees covered by labor law benefit from this review." This point reflects serious concerns of workers regarding their living conditions and the pressure caused by inflation.

Meanwhile, representatives of the government and employers are consulting and seeking opinions from higher authorities and relevant ministries to make a final decision. Bagheri emphasized that given the economic complexities and sanctions, reaching a final consensus among the ministries of economy, industry, labor, and the standards organization will take time.

Ultimately, the Supreme Labor Council's final goal is to implement this increase for the second half of this year. Bagheri noted that the date of the next Supreme Labor Council meeting will be determined after the coordination with higher authorities is finalized.
