Hatef Mamezi, the Deputy of the Agricultural Jihad Organization of Tehran Province, announced the increase in chicken price to 370,000 Tomans per kilogram in fruit and vegetable markets. This price change is the result of rising production costs and the mismatch with consumer prices in recent years.

Reasons for the Increase in Chicken Price

Mamezi explained that the producer's costs, including packaging, transportation rates, feed, and other services, have generally reached 350,000 Tomans for each kilogram of chicken. Previously, the production cost in poultry farms was about 225,000 Tomans, and the consumer price was around 250,000 Tomans. This imbalance had caused dissatisfaction among producers.

Moreover, he pointed out that given the sufficient chicken production in the country, there is no concern about shortages. In case of increased demand, frozen chicken supply can be prioritized.

Chicken Consumption Pattern in Iran

The Deputy of the Agricultural Jihad Organization of Tehran Province also referred to the chicken consumption pattern in the country, stating that households usually buy whole chickens and then cut and freeze them. In contrast, in many other countries, consumers prefer packaged frozen chicken, which is more economical for both consumers and producers.

He emphasized that if people shift to using frozen cut chicken, this change could be economically beneficial for them. Overall, the cost price of one kilogram of chicken is currently about 335,000 Tomans, which Mamezi stated is a balanced and reasonable rate.

Considering the production of 120 million chicks per month, efforts should be made to maintain this level of production so that producers can continue their activities. Currently, the price of chicken in the fruit and vegetable markets of Tehran is offered at 370,000 Tomans per kilogram, and in some stores and chicken shops, this price ranges between 360,000 to 365,000 Tomans. This price difference across the city has raised many questions for consumers.

Yesterday, the Tehran Municipality's Fruit and Vegetable Markets Organization announced the price of one kilogram of packaged chicken as 370,000 Tomans. In this situation, paying attention to prices and consumption patterns can help improve the market situation.
