Hossein Shariatmadari, the editor-in-chief of Kayhan, examined the economic challenges facing America and Europe due to Iran's sanctions in a note titled "This 7 is Greater than That 47." He emphasized, quoting the statements of martyrs, that Iran can respond to the sanctioning countries by utilizing its vast gas resources.
Iran's Power in Closing the Strait of Hormuz
Shariatmadari pointed out the Islamic Republic of Iran's sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz in this note and stated that this action is officially recognized in two international conventions. He mentioned that this economic pressure has been imposed on Iran's enemies and has now become a serious challenge for Americans and their European allies. The increase in crude oil prices, especially the price of Brent oil which has surpassed $117 per barrel, is an example of the effects of these sanctions.

Consequences of Economic War
Shariatmadari referred to the recent protests in America and widespread riots in European countries resulting from the economic pressures caused by sanctions. He added: "This war has confronted America and its allies with debilitating economic pressure." According to him, The New York Times reported that half of the people in America have become severely impoverished due to the consequences of this war and cannot meet their essential living needs.
Shariatmadari also pointed to Iran's remarkable power in countering sanctions and said: "Iran has been able to show that it has been oblivious to this powerful lever and has now unveiled it in the Ramadan war." He emphasized that although America and its allies have imposed sanctions against the people of Iran for the past 47 years, only 7 months have passed since Iran's sanctions against them began, and these sanctions have had more devastating effects on their economy.
Finally, Shariatmadari referred to the songs sung at the nighttime gatherings of the people and said: "The people respond to each line of this song with the refrain 'Hold the Strait Firmly.'" He considered this a sign of solidarity and resistance of the Iranian people against external pressures.
