Hamid Saheb, the Director General of Health of Tehran Municipality, elaborated in his recent press conference on special programs designed to honor and support over 1.3 million seniors residing in the capital. These programs will be implemented on the occasion of Senior Week, aiming to increase seniors' participation in society and transfer their experiences to the younger generation.
Life Experiences in Schools
One of the most interesting programs is the "Bell of Wisdom and Experience" initiative, where seniors and members of the "World-Seers" network visit schools and share their life experiences with students. This event not only leads to the transfer of knowledge and experience but also provides an opportunity for the younger generation to become familiar with the challenges and triumphs of old age.

Local Bazaars and Cultural Services
Establishing local bazaars in all 22 districts of Tehran is another significant initiative during this week. In these bazaars, seniors showcase their products and capabilities, experiencing a sense of usefulness and community participation. Additionally, special tourism tours, weekly gatherings, and local celebrations are planned to enhance joy and vitality in the lives of seniors.
The Director General of Health of Tehran Municipality also announced the establishment of mobile units in gathering places for seniors, such as parks and public centers. These units provide cultural and advisory services, and ceremonies will also be held to honor the status of seniors and city veterans.
Development of the World-Seers Network
The development of the "World-Seers" network is designed as a secretariat for a "Senior-Friendly City" with the aim of creating a platform for active senior participation in urban management. Given that the number of members of this network has exceeded 70,000, it seems that these efforts have been successful in improving the quality of life for seniors and creating a suitable space for expressing their problems and challenges in neighborhoods.
Pointing out that at least 13% of the population in each neighborhood of Tehran consists of seniors, Saheb emphasized that addressing the needs of this group and providing platforms for their participation in local management should be prioritized. This includes adapting pathways and public spaces, as many seniors currently face numerous obstacles in this regard.
In conclusion, Hamid Saheb stated: "Seniors should be advocates in their neighborhoods and cities, and we are seeking to create opportunities for their voices to be heard by officials." Given the growing trend of the senior population in Iran, these programs could be an effective step towards improving the living conditions of this segment of society.
