Firooz Ghasemzadeh, the director general of the Office of Water Information and Data of the country, in his latest report on the status of rainfall and water reserves, examined the changes in rainfall and its impact on water resources. While reporting on the overall status of the country's water reservoirs, he also pointed out the decrease in rainfall in the provinces of Tehran and Qom.

Status of Rainfall and Water Reservoirs in the Country

Ghasemzadeh announced that currently about 48% of the country's water reservoirs are full and the status of rainfall is assessed as normal compared to the long-term average. However, in the provinces of Tehran and Qom, rainfall has faced a decrease of more than 35% compared to the long-term average. He emphasized that the water year is coming to an end, noting that the country's rainfall situation has improved compared to last year, but it is not uniform across all regions.

Existing Challenges in Different Provinces

The director general of the Office of Water Information and Data of the country referred to the rainfall situation in the Salt Lake region and stated: "Provinces such as Tehran, Alborz, Hamadan, and Qom have experienced a decreasing trend compared to the long-term average." He also mentioned the status of dams in Tehran province and explained that currently the status of some dams' reserves is not favorable. For example, Karaj Dam is about 80% full and Taleqan Dam is about 50% full, but other dams are not in better conditions.

Ghasemzadeh also expressed concern about the status of dams in Khorasan Razavi province and the dams supplying water to Hamadan province, stating that these areas are also facing water resource shortages.

Expectations for New Rainfall and Water Consumption Management

He, referring to the end of the water year and entering a new climatic condition (El Niño), hopes that the rainfall will be such that it can help with the storage and replenishment of reservoirs. Ghasemzadeh also warned of the possibility of flooding and urged people to pay attention to the recommendations of the meteorological organization. He expressed hope that the next water year would start under better conditions.

The director general of the Office of Water Information and Data of the country ultimately emphasized that water consumption management should be prioritized under all circumstances, even when strong rainfall is predicted. He stated: "Water resource trends indicate that the status of water resources is declining and the amount of available water in the country is becoming more limited due to climate change."
