Kashan farmers, noticing a significant reduction in the water flow from the Suleymaniye spring, have spontaneously taken action and started dredging the waterway. This spring, which is one of the main sources of water for the historic Fin garden in Kashan, has faced a severe decline in water flow in recent years. According to statistics, the water flow from this spring has decreased from 350 liters per second in previous years to below 50 liters per second.
Farmers' Concerns Over Decreased Water Flow
Local farmers, worried about the future of their gardens and agricultural lands, have responded to this situation by dredging the waterway themselves. One farmer says: "We have gardens and agricultural land, and when water does not arrive on time, the trees and crops suffer. We took action ourselves and started dredging."

Causes of Decreased Water Flow from the Suleymaniye Spring
The head of the Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Department of Kashan announced that drought, reduced rainfall, and the effects of illegal wells and mining activities upstream of the spring are the main factors contributing to the decrease in water flow. Alireza Abdollahzadeh stated: "In response to the intensification of water stress, a meeting was held with relevant agencies, and one of the decisions made was to dredge part of the waterway, which has been carried out. Although this dredging was limited, it had an impact on the output of the Suleymaniye spring."
Farmers also believe that to find the real cause of the decreased water flow, the status of the wells and the activities of two stone mines upstream of the spring should be examined. One farmer mentioned: "We want the activities of these wells to be restricted to determine whether reducing extraction from these resources can affect the water flow of the spring or not." The head of the Cultural Heritage Department of Kashan has responded positively to this request and announced that the status of illegal wells and the impact of mining activities upstream on the water flow of the spring will be investigated.
The water from the Suleymaniye spring, which flows through the Fin garden, is simultaneously an important issue for the protection of UNESCO World Heritage and a livelihood challenge for local farmers. With this trend continuing, everyone hopes that appropriate solutions will be implemented for managing water resources and reducing the damages caused by this crisis.
