Jean Krutman, a professor of dermatology at the Leibniz Institute for Environmental Medical Research, believes that healthy nutrition can help maintain youthful skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body and should accompany us throughout our lives; therefore, proper care not only helps maintain a youthful appearance but also impacts the overall health of the body.
The Impact of Environmental Factors on Skin Aging
Krutman explains that the skin, as a barrier between the body and the outside environment, is always exposed to damage. He says, "For decades, we thought that ultraviolet rays from the sun were the main cause of skin aging due to environmental factors, but now we know that this assumption is not correct." According to him, other wavelengths of natural sunlight, including visible light and infrared radiation, can also play a role in skin aging.

The Role of Nutrition in Youthful Skin
From healthy fats to fermented foods, certain foods can help maintain the health and freshness of the skin. Research has shown that a diet rich in plant-based foods is important for skin health. The consumption of colorful fruits and vegetables is recommended as they contain powerful antioxidants that protect the skin from damage caused by air pollution and sunlight.
Carrots, bell peppers, and tomatoes are rich in carotenoids, which are stored in fatty tissue and protect the skin from ultraviolet rays. Additionally, regular consumption of foods rich in carotenoids can provide a type of basic and continuous protection against ultraviolet radiation.
Krutman emphasizes that to benefit from these foods, they must be consumed regularly. In this context, the consumption of mango has also been highlighted as a beneficial fruit for maintaining youthful skin. Research shows that mango can help reduce existing and new wrinkles.
Finally, consuming an adequate amount of nuts and seeds is also beneficial for the skin. Vitamin E, which is abundant in nuts, can protect the skin from cellular damage and aging. Alongside this, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids also help maintain skin moisture and strengthen its protective barrier.
