Dr. Fatemeh Mohammadi Hosseini pointed out the dangers of unaware and improper use of cleaning and chemical products, stating: Adhering to safety precautions during cleaning and home tidying is essential, and neglecting these principles can jeopardize the health of individuals, especially children and the elderly.
Safety Tips for Using Cleaning Products
She recommended that when using chemical products and cleaners, the label on the packaging should be read carefully, and these products should not be accessible to children. This expert from the health product safety monitoring group emphasized that cleaning and chemical products should be kept in their original containers and should never be transferred to food containers, such as soda bottles. This dangerous act may lead to accidental consumption of these substances, especially by children and the elderly, resulting in severe poisoning.
The Dangers of Mixing Cleaning Products
Dr. Mohammadi Hosseini highlighted the importance of proper ventilation when using cleaners, adding: When using bleach and descalers in bathrooms, doors and windows should be opened, and the exhaust fan should be turned on. Furthermore, after using cleaners, bleaches, descalers, and drain cleaners in small and enclosed spaces like bathrooms, one should avoid staying in these areas; as the gases released can be toxic and suffocating.
She also deemed the use of personal protective equipment essential, stating: When cleaning surfaces and using cleaning and disinfecting compounds, gloves and closed-toe shoes should be worn, and if possible, a suitable mask should also be used.
Dr. Mohammadi Hosseini warned about the dangers of mixing household cleaning products and clarified: Mixing hydrochloric acid, descalers, and drain cleaners with bleaches and stain removers like bleach is very dangerous. Contrary to what some may think, combining these substances does not necessarily enhance cleaning power; instead, it may produce toxic and suffocating gases, leading to severe respiratory poisoning and even irreversible damage.
According to existing reports, Mohammadi Hosseini emphasized: Various cleaners, descalers, bleaches, powders, and cleaning solutions should not be mixed together. Additionally, before discarding containers containing chemicals and cleaners in the trash, they should be rinsed to reduce the risk of residual substances and unintended contact with them.
