Chicken prices have been announced in the market, detailing various types, and industry players express concerns about the significant gap between production costs and selling prices. However, currently, the market is not facing a shortage of this product. Nevertheless, poultry farmers believe that to sustain production and prevent producers from exiting the activity cycle, production costs must be reduced.
Attention to Production Costs
The National Union of Broiler Farmers has requested farmers to refrain from offering live chickens at prices lower than 200,000 tomans. This issue has once again turned the gap between production costs and chicken selling prices into one of the main market issues. Farmers report heavy losses and rising production costs, while consumers face high prices for chicken products in the retail market.

According to field information, fresh whole chicken is currently offered between 280,000 to 340,000 tomans per kilogram. In the portioning sector, prices vary; for instance, premium boneless chicken breast is sold for 652,514 tomans, fresh chicken fillet for 433,519 tomans, and chicken gizzards for 785,000 tomans.
Challenges in Production and Pricing
Habib Asadollahnajad, CEO of the National Union of Broiler Farmers, commented on the status of production costs: Although the prices of some inputs like soybeans have decreased, the costs of other production components remain high. The current production cost of each kilogram of chicken is estimated to be around 245,000 to 250,000 tomans, while producers are offering chicken at prices around 170,000 to 180,000 tomans.
The daily losses in this sector over the past two to three months have exceeded 500 to 600 billion tomans. Given that the volume of chick placements in September was higher than the country's needs, the poultry union considers a chicken shortage in the market unlikely; however, the continuation of this situation could harm production in the coming months.
Ultimately, the price of live chickens is just one component of the final price of chicken for consumers. Additional costs such as slaughtering and transportation can impact retail prices, which is significant as chicken is recognized as one of the main sources of protein for households.
