Blurred vision is a common visual problem that many people attribute to eye strain or prolonged use of mobile phones. However, this issue is not always harmless and may indicate serious problems.

Warning Signs of Blurred Vision

Sometimes blurred vision develops gradually, but in some cases, a person may suddenly realize that one or both of their eyes are not seeing properly. This condition can be indicative of signs such as retinal detachment, a sudden increase in eye pressure, or even a stroke.

If the vision in one eye suddenly becomes blurred or part of its field of vision disappears, this situation should be taken seriously. One possible cause is a disruption in blood flow to the retina. Retinal vessel occlusion can lead to a sudden decrease in vision. Sudden vision loss in one eye, even if it resolves after a few minutes, may indicate a transient ischemic attack that requires immediate medical evaluation.

Essential Measures to Maintain Eye Health

If you suddenly see flashes of light, many black spots, or numerous floaters in your field of vision, your retina may be at risk of stretching or tearing. Additionally, if the number of floaters suddenly increases or you feel a dark curtain has fallen over part of your vision, you should see an eye doctor immediately.

Blurred vision accompanied by severe headache, eye pain, nausea, or vomiting may indicate a sudden increase in intraocular pressure. Acute angle-closure glaucoma is one condition that can present with these symptoms and is considered an eye emergency.

In situations where sudden blurred vision is accompanied by double vision, dizziness, balance issues, weakness in one arm or leg, numbness on one side of the body, or difficulty speaking, a stroke is a possibility, and in this case, emergency services should be contacted immediately.

Redness of the eye along with blurred vision and pain can also be a sign of inflammation, infection, or increased intraocular pressure. Therefore, if you are using contact lenses and experience pain or blurred vision, you should not ignore this issue.

Finally, to reduce the risk of certain visual problems, adhering to a few simple habits can be beneficial: regular eye examinations, controlling diabetes and blood pressure, and taking proper breaks when working with screens.
