Mahdi Pir-Salehi, head of the Food and Drug Organization and Deputy Minister of Health, at the eighth International Halal and Health Conference held today in the Summit Hall, referred to the importance of developing the Halal industry and said: "Halal has become a global issue today and is no longer limited to the food sector, but also includes medicine, dietary supplements, cosmetic and hygiene products, clothing, and tourism."
Supervision of Health-Oriented Products
Pir-Salehi continued: "The research center of the organization operates in the field of Halal and health-oriented goods, and these actions are pursued in various sectors, from medicine and dietary supplements to cosmetic and hygiene products. Today, the products offered in the country are under supervision, and the issue of their Halal status is also taken into account."
China, the Largest Producer of Halal Products
The head of the Food and Drug Organization emphasized that Halal has become a large industry in the world, announcing: "More than two-thirds of Halal products are produced in non-Muslim countries, and China is the largest producer of these products. Therefore, Islamic countries must unite and collaborate more to provide Halal products to the people and take advantage of the global market for these products."
Pir-Salehi also referred to the unveiling of the National Halal Network at this conference and emphasized: "We must use this capacity to develop the Halal industry within the country and expand cooperation with Muslim countries." He noted that Iran should take advantage of existing opportunities for a more effective presence in the global market.
The Necessity of Entering New Areas
The Deputy Minister of Health highlighted the importance of entering the tourism, clothing, and food sectors into the Halal industry, considering the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in establishing connections and cooperation with Islamic countries as important. He emphasized: "We must utilize the capacities of international organizations and Islamic countries, and religious seminaries can also play an effective role in developing this area."
Mohammad Hashemi, the executive secretary of the Halal and Health conference, stressed the necessity of examining issues from new perspectives and said: "Addressing the topic of Halal and health products requires moving beyond repetitive approaches and utilizing diverse viewpoints."
Abdolazim Behfar, director general of food and beverage products, also emphasized the importance of adhering to Halal requirements in the food supply chain and said: "The Halal status of a product is not limited to its appearance or obtaining legal permits, but these requirements must be adhered to at all stages of the supply chain."
