Amir Ghalenoei, the head coach of the Iran national football team, is still searching for a third friendly match during the October FIFA window. Although the Iran national team has only played two matches in this window and lost both, Ghalenoei believes that his team urgently needs this third match.
Consecutive Defeats and the Need for Evaluation
The Iran national team lost its first match in Fergana 3-1 against Uzbekistan and in its second match in Kazan, lost 2-0 to Russia. These two defeats have raised concerns about the team's preparation status and player evaluation. Ghalenoei emphasized before the match against Russia that he needs the remaining FIFA windows to evaluate players and reach the desired lineup and playing style.

Challenges of Holding the Third Match
Initially, the Iran national team was supposed to face Venezuela in this FIFA window, but this match was quickly removed from the schedule. The Iranian Football Federation then sought other options, and Guinea-Bissau was mentioned as a potential third opponent. Even planning for this match to be held in Turkey was done, but issues related to the travel of the African team and logistical matters caused this match to be canceled as well.
Nevertheless, officials from the Iranian Football Federation are still negotiating to find a new opponent. These efforts are essentially a continuation of the request made by the national team's coaching staff from the beginning. Ghalenoei has clearly stated that his team should not settle for just two matches in this window and needs to hold a third friendly match.
Missed Opportunities
The importance of holding a third match increases because this FIFA window has provided national teams with more opportunities compared to many regular FIFA windows. However, the Iran national team has only utilized this opportunity to hold two matches. Therefore, the national team coach has once again emphasized the necessity of holding a third friendly match in contact with federation officials and stated that whenever the opponent is determined, he will be ready to play.
Although it seems that holding the third match is now unlikely, Amir Ghalenoei and his team's efforts to improve conditions and better prepare the Iran national football team continue. Ahead of the AFC Asian Cup, these matches can be considered a valuable opportunity for evaluating and preparing players.
