Iranian wrestlers, with their outstanding performance at the World Championships, wrote a new chapter in history. This country, as the only nation to stand on the podium in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, showcased its strength once again. The national teams of freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling in Iran achieved significant successes by securing third place and the world championship title, respectively, bringing great achievements for football and sports in the country.
Achievements of the National Greco-Roman Wrestling Team
The national Greco-Roman wrestling team of Iran secured the world championship title in this edition of the competitions by winning 4 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals. Achievements of the National Freestyle Wrestling Team
The national freestyle wrestling team also secured third place in the world by winning 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 3 bronze medals. Ahmad Mohammadzadeh Javan, a lightweight wrestler, won the world gold medal after 13 years and brought this medal to Khorasan Razavi province. Additionally, Daniel Sohrabi from Andimeshk also brought home the gold medal from the world competitions after a decade.
These successes are not limited to the medalists. Hassan Yazdani, Mohammad-Hadi Saravi, and Amir-Hossein Zare also brought new honors to Iranian wrestling by winning multiple medals. The geographical distribution of the medalists from various provinces and cities across the country reflects the expansion of wrestling and the capacity for producing champions throughout Iran.
These results are a result of the efforts of the Wrestling Federation in organizing the selection cycle for national teams and improving the technical and welfare infrastructure for wrestlers. The Wrestling Federation, aiming to plan for a successful presence at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, hopes that this trend will continue and that our national teams will enter competitions with greater preparedness.
