Ali Akbar Velayati, advisor to the Supreme Leader on international affairs, recently addressed the policies of the Armenian government and the corridor known as the "Trump Corridor" in an article titled "Frankly and Sincerely with the Prime Minister," warning about the consequences of these decisions.
Historical Concerns and Iran-Armenia Relations
In this article, Velayati emphasized that throughout the long history of Iran-Armenia relations, such anomalies have never been observed. He referred to his visit to Armenia during his tenure as Foreign Minister, stating: "At that time, I met with great Armenian scholars and clergy, and I never observed a dark point in the relations between the two countries."

He added that Iran has always maintained friendly relations with Armenia and that the Armenian minority in Iran has always been respected and has two representatives in the Islamic Consultative Assembly. Velayati also referred to the impacts of the collapse of the Soviet Union and the formation of independent republics, stating: "The Islamic Republic of Iran's relations with all the republics remaining from the Soviet Union have been friendly and normal."
Impacts of Nikol Pashinyan's Policies
Velayati then referred to Nikol Pashinyan's actions, stating: "His actions have led to increased hostilities between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and this situation has intensified more than ever." He also mentioned the approval of the proposal to rename the Zangezur Corridor to the Trump Corridor in the Armenian Parliament, deeming this action fruitless and a source of shame for the Armenian nation.
The Supreme Leader's advisor stressed that Pashinyan's behavior, given his background, will create a new chapter of hostility and tension in the South Caucasus. He expressed concern that Armenia might make a miscalculation regarding South Caucasus security due to Russia's problems in Ukraine.
In his meetings with Armenian officials, Velayati has explicitly stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran considers itself responsible for maintaining security in the South Caucasus and will firmly confront any actions that cross Iran's red lines.
He emphasized the importance of this issue, saying: "If Trump and his allies wish to cross this red line of Iran, we will break their legs."
With the approval of this corridor in the Armenian Parliament, Velayati explicitly warned the Armenian ambassador that this action will not only lead to shame for the Armenian nation but will also have severe consequences for regional security.
