Aghdas Pourtarab, born on October 10, 1939, in Tehran, was one of the greatest piano educators in Iran and a well-known figure in the country's music scene. The news of her passing was announced through her official social media page, plunging the Iranian music community into deep sorrow.

Beginning of Artistic Life

Aghdas Pourtarab entered the world of music at a young age and joined the Higher School of Music from the fifth grade of elementary school. With the guidance of her older brother, Mostafa Kamal Pourtarab, she enrolled in Giti Amir Khosravi's class and began her piano education. Along this path, Zaven Hakopian and Jalal Al-e Ahmad were among her teachers who played a significant role in shaping her artistic personality.

From the age of 13, Pourtarab began teaching piano and accordion and showcased her abilities by performing Schumann's piano concerto with the Tehran Symphony Orchestra. To continue her music studies, she traveled to Paris and then went to the Freiburg Conservatory in Germany on a scholarship. There, she was trained by the renowned German pianist, Edith Picht-Axenfeld, and successfully earned a virtuoso diploma.

Teaching and Influence

After returning to Iran, Pourtarab taught at the Music Conservatory and the National Music Conservatory and was recognized as one of the greatest piano teachers. Over the years, she trained many of her students, many of whom are now well-known and successful musicians in the music field. Names such as Ahmad Pejman, Nader Mashayekhi, Andre Moradian, Niloufar Badri Kouhi, Mohammad Shams, and Leila Ramadan are among her students.

Aghdas Pourtarab immigrated to France in 1983 with her children and continued teaching piano there as well. However, she never severed her ties with Iran and increased her trips to Iran in the following years to continue teaching Iranian students.

Alongside her personal successes, Pourtarab was known as an influential artistic family with her brothers, Mostafa Kamal Pourtarab, Amir Timur Pourtarab, and Mohammad Eisa Pourtarab, all of whom are recognized Iranian musicians. Through her life and work, she left a profound impact not only on Iranian music but also on future generations, and her memory will always remain in the hearts of art lovers.
