Alireza Zakani, the mayor of Tehran, at a gathering of Basij students on the anniversary of the martyrdom of martyr Mohammad Hossein Fahmideh, regarded Basij as a noble tree whose culture can create despair among the enemies of Iran.
Cultural War and the Need for Preparedness for the Future
Zakani, referring to the ongoing confrontation of the Islamic Republic of Iran with its enemies, emphasized that the country is facing the Great Satan. He did not consider the current war to be the end of the story and called for greater preparedness among the younger generation for larger arenas. In his view, the school years are a time for self-building and preparation for playing significant roles in society. Zakani described the goal of this path as self-construction, creating transformation in the country, and forming a strong Iran.

He also referred to the historical and ideological background of Iran and Islam, stating: "Our great responsibility in this path rests upon us, and its support is a historical legacy and a long path of the confrontation between truth and falsehood." Zakani, recalling the sacrifices in Islamic history, considered the event of Ashura as a pinnacle of these efforts and emphasized that this path continued until the victory of the Islamic Revolution in February 1979.
The Necessity of Preserving the Islamic System and Hope for the Future
The mayor of Tehran emphasized the importance of preserving the Islamic system, stating: "This system has such value that Imam Khomeini (RA) emphasized the necessity of preserving it and considered the preservation of the system as one of the most important obligations." Zakani also referred to God’s promise regarding the future of the world, saying: "According to God's promise, the future belongs to the oppressed, and the realization of justice and the sovereignty of the oppressed is among the horizons ahead of the world." He emphasized that fulfilling this promise requires the efforts of the younger generation.
Zakani, recalling the position of martyr Mohammad Hossein Fahmideh in the history of the Islamic Revolution, said: "The teenage years are the time for doing great things. Martyr Fahmideh showed bravery at this age, about whom Imam Khomeini (RA) said, our leader is that 13-year-old child who created great value with his small heart." He told the students that each of them can have a significant and valuable role in the future of the country.
He referred to verse 54 of Surah Al-Ma'idah, inviting Basij students to pay attention to the characteristics of the believers beloved by God and considered sincerity in action as one of the most important of these characteristics. Zakani emphasized that the goal of activities should be to seek God's satisfaction, not merely that of others.
In conclusion, referring to the vast potential of the student community in the country, he said: "The millions of students represent an unparalleled capacity for the country's progress, and this potential should be utilized in schools, mosques, and various social arenas." Zakani emphasized the necessity of hope for the future, obedience to the leadership, and efforts to build Iran, expressing hope that the younger generation, by emulating the martyrs, will lay the groundwork for great successes for the country and the global community.
