Turkey has indirectly entered the Russia-Ukraine war by sending the "Korkut" air defense system to Ukraine. This action comes at a time when Ankara has consistently claimed neutrality in this war and seems to have ignored Russia's threats.

Turkey's Military Aid to Kyiv

According to reports from informed sources, the Turkish company "Aselsan," one of the largest manufacturers of military equipment in Turkey, has sent several short-range "Korkut" air defense systems to Ukraine. This system includes three combat vehicles and one central command vehicle designed to be effective against aerial threats, especially suicide drones. This news indicates that Turkey is trying to play a more active role in the Ukraine crisis.

Consequences of Sending Weapons to Ukraine

Russia has repeatedly warned that sending weapons to Ukraine, especially from NATO countries, could exacerbate the crisis. The country believes that such actions not only do not help resolve the crisis but could also fuel further conflicts and directly involve NATO countries in the war. In this context, Turkey's choice to send military aid has begun a kind of game with fire.

Ahmet Akil, the head of Aselsan, announced this week that Korkut systems are currently in use in nine other countries as well. These statements reflect Turkey's seriousness and capability in producing and supplying modern military equipment.

This decision by Turkey could have significant repercussions for its relations with Moscow as well as with NATO countries. While Turkey is recognized as a NATO member, maintaining good relations with Russia in economic and energy fields is also of high importance.

In this regard, Turkey aims to achieve a balance in its policies to defend its national interests while avoiding direct conflict with Russia. This challenge has led politicians and analysts to ponder whether Turkey can achieve greater successes in this area or not.
