The sudden transfer of American bombers from Fairford Air Base in Britain has revealed the severe vulnerability of the world's most powerful military force and its NATO allies. This action was taken in response to Iranian drone threats and indicates that Washington's military superiority does not necessarily mean readiness to confront cheap weaponry and asymmetric attacks.

Warnings and Actions

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has claimed that Iran's military capability has been completely destroyed, yet Tehran continues to retaliate using cheap drones. These drones have prevented the return of the U.S. Navy to Washington-supported ports in the Middle East and have inflicted heavy damage on U.S. air bases. Warnings about these threats even led to the evacuation of all American bombers from Fairford this week.

In July, Trump took an unusual action at the NATO summit in Ankara due to security concerns and took refuge in a vehicle carrying equipment to avoid threats. These actions reflect the extent of new threats and the low preparedness of American and European officials to confront this new form of warfare.

New Challenges for NATO Forces

American and European officials have recognized significant limitations. Pete Hegseth, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, recently established a new combat command focused on drone warfare, but it seems that this action will take years to yield tangible results. Nevertheless, NATO's European allies are facing an increasing number of drone incursions into their airspace, severely threatening their security.

Trump explained the decision to transfer the bombers by saying, "There were threats, and instead of provoking the enemy, we trap them." However, the proliferation of cheap technologies and their usability have compelled the Pentagon to reconsider its methods for faster procurement and development of anti-drone weapons. Meanwhile, U.S. military commanders are considering whether to rebuild their base in Bahrain.

Given recent attacks and existing limitations, the U.S. military faces serious challenges in securing the fuel and logistics it needs. This situation poses new threats to the national security and military operations of the country.
