Thomas Piketty, the French economist, recently analyzed the current state of the world and its challenges in a new interview. Five years ago, he drew global attention by warning about increasing inequalities and the emergence of an elite class holding vast wealth, and now he seems more concerned than ever.
Inequality and Political Crises
Piketty emphasizes that the current inequality has reached a level that can be compared to the period before the French Revolution in the late 18th century. He reminds us that history has shown that whenever such an imbalance reaches these dimensions, political crises can arise that change the course of history. However, he remains hopeful for the future and believes that democratic forces and social movements will be able to transform institutions and create a more equal world.

Global Outlook and Piketty's Proposals
Piketty continues by presenting a set of bold proposals that have been compiled under the title "Global Justice Project." These proposals include creating a new international currency to replace the dollar and equalizing per capita income among different countries. He also suggests reducing working hours to less than half as one of the solutions. These proposals align with the demands of Global South countries that have been repeatedly raised in recent years.
According to Piketty, in a world facing multiple conflicts, a reconciliation can be established between this situation and global aspirations. He believes that today we must talk about more serious prospects and cannot wait with pessimism to see what will happen. We must seek solutions to development problems and environmental issues.
Piketty states that in the near future, a group of countries will take action to impose taxes on large fortunes and will seek to create a common international monetary system. He emphasizes that the American economy is declining and can no longer continue as the international currency. In his opinion, these changes will occur sooner than expected and will benefit both the world and America itself.
