Adolfo Garcia, director of the Cognitive Neuroscience Center at the University of San Andrés in Argentina, along with a research team, has explored the relationship between the human voice and the aging process. This research shows that voice can be used as a new marker for identifying cognitive disorders and acceleration in biological aging.

Human Voice Analysis: A Tool for Predicting Dementia

This unique tool does not focus on the tone or pitch of the voice, but evaluates hundreds of different features including speech rate, verbal pauses, word choice, and emotional expression. Researchers tested this model on nearly three thousand Spanish speakers and found that the greater the AI's estimated age compared to the individual's actual age, the higher the likelihood of cognitive disorders and dementia.

This study was conducted using data from the "Red-Let Consortium," a large project on dementia in Latin America, and includes information from over two thousand nine hundred participants from various Latin American countries. Participants ranged in age from 18 to 88 and were in different cognitive states. The research aimed to investigate the relationship between speech patterns and the biological age of the body.

Social and Economic Implications of These Findings

As a result of this research, it was found that individuals whose voices sounded "older" than their actual age performed poorly in memory, language, and attention tests. Additionally, these individuals typically faced more social and economic challenges. The results of this research could lead to the development of new methods for predicting dementia and improving healthcare services for these individuals.

Despite the numerous achievements, Garcia and his team are also aware of the limitations of this research. It is still too early to use this tool for diagnosing the risk of dementia in individuals, and further research and testing of this method in different languages is needed. This research is considered an important step towards identifying and preventing dementia.

Ultimately, Adolfo Garcia believes that there are powerful indicators in the way people speak that could help predict the risk of dementia in the future. Especially in situations where access to healthcare services and complex tests is limited, this tool could play a significant role in early detection and brain health management.
