Woody Allen, the renowned film director, announced the start of filming his fifty-first film during a press conference in Madrid on Thursday. He described this film as a comedy that features the perennial elements of love, intrigue, and betrayal. According to Allen, these components have always been among his favorite elements for storytelling.

This film is being produced with a budget of around $14 million, and the main filming will take place over six weeks in Madrid. A significant portion of the production costs is also covered by public funding, and the city of Madrid will play a prominent role in the film.
Presence of José Luis Alcaine and the Cast
One interesting aspect of this project is the involvement of José Luis Alcaine, the 87-year-old Spanish cinematographer, as the director of photography. Alcaine is known for his long-standing collaborations with Pedro Almodóvar and has worked with him on eight films. Allen, who has previously worked with the renowned Italian cinematographer Vittorio Storaro, hopes that collaborating with Alcaine will create interesting visual differences in his new film.
In the cast, Allen has announced the participation of Ali Vasar and Jemima Jo Kirk. Ali Vasar, who had previously decided to step away from acting, changed his mind upon receiving Allen's offer. He mentioned that he felt a sense of nostalgia upon hearing Allen's proposal for the first time, and after securing the role, he experienced that feeling again. Vasar also noted that his entire life and familiarity with Allen's works have somehow prepared him for this collaboration.
Alongside Vasar, Jemima Jo Kirk, a British-American artist, is also known for her role as Jess in the series "Girls." Other cast members of this film include Marton Csokas, Jakob Oftebro, and Peter Vives.
Allen's Career and Recent Works
Allen's latest film, "A Stroke of Luck," released in 2023, is his fifth film and was made in French. This film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and received significant acclaim. Currently, "A Stroke of Luck" holds an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is considered Allen's best film since "Blue Jasmine" in 2013.
Allen's prolific career over several decades includes many successful works and films with more mixed reactions. Among his most well-known films are "Annie Hall," "Hannah and Her Sisters," and "Crimes and Misdemeanors." Now, at the age of 90, Allen is once again behind the camera and hopes to create a new and lasting work in collaboration with José Luis Alcaine.
