The El Niño phenomenon, which is occurring severely this year, is actually centered near the equator and the Pacific Ocean. This phenomenon directly causes global warming, and the intensity of heat in this event is such that scientists have dubbed it "Godzilla." According to experts, this time the phenomenon is particularly dangerous and could have irreparable consequences.
Prediction of Widespread Mortality
Recent reports predict that as a result of the El Niño phenomenon, between September 2026 and February 2027, 451,000 people will lose their lives. This prediction is not only alarming but also indicates the catastrophic dimensions of this phenomenon compared to previous events. In the years 1877 and 1878, a severe El Niño caused the deaths of over 50 million people in India, Brazil, and China.

Global Impacts
In this regard, the United States, as one of the top 20 countries severely affected by El Niño, has predicted that about 3,500 additional heat-related deaths will be recorded in the country. Additionally, other countries on a larger scale, including coastal countries in Africa and Southeast Asia, will also be severely affected by extreme weather conditions.
The World Food Program also warned in August of this year that the consequences of this weather phenomenon could push about 50 million people into acute hunger. This situation will undoubtedly lead to increased food prices and humanitarian crises in various regions.
Affected Countries
Reports indicate that 10 countries have been identified as the lands with the highest human casualties due to global warming caused by the Super El Niño of 2026-2027. These statistics accurately reflect the mortality caused by this phenomenon and emphasize that urgent actions to save lives are essential. In this regard, governments and global organizations must develop effective programs to mitigate the effects of this phenomenon.
In the infographic below, the environmental and human consequences of this year's Super El Niño, along with the top 10 countries with the highest mortality due to this phenomenon and life-saving actions, are depicted. This information can serve as a warning to the global community that they must prepare to confront this crisis.
