Hybrid taxis will soon be added to Tehran's public transportation fleet. These vehicles not only have lower emissions but can travel 1800 kilometers on a single tank of gasoline, which means less fuel consumption. Ali Rahimi, the CEO of the Tehran Taxi Management and Supervision Organization, provided more details about the arrival of these new taxis in the city during a program titled Park Way.
Renewal of the Taxi Fleet
In the past five years, approximately 11,000 taxis have been renewed in Tehran. Of this number, around 2,000 electric taxis have been added to the public transportation fleet. However, fluctuations in car prices in the Iranian market have caused vehicle prices to rise sharply. For example, the Samand vehicle, which was delivered to drivers last year for 700 million tomans, has now reached about 1 billion and 900 million tomans this year.

By order of the Mayor of Tehran, the mission to renew vehicles has been directed towards hybridization. In this regard, a contract has been signed for the import of hybrid vehicles to Tehran's taxi fleet, which in the first phase includes 2,000 vehicles.
Utilizing the Free Zone of Imam Khomeini Airport
Another positive development is the announcement of the Imam Khomeini Airport Free Zone for the import of hybrid vehicles. With the cooperation of the free zone, these vehicles will enter Tehran's taxi fleet. The processes related to the import of 2,000 hybrid taxis are underway, and some of these vehicles have already arrived in Tehran. Currently, the administrative bureaucracy related to the registration of these vehicles is in progress.
It is expected that within the next two weeks, the first batch of hybrid taxis in Tehran will be unveiled. The first license plate from the free zone will be issued for these vehicles, and soon we will witness the operation of these taxis throughout the city.
Advantages of Hybrid Vehicles
The hybrid vehicles being added to the taxi fleet operate on both gasoline and electricity. With their 60-liter tank, these vehicles can travel 1800 kilometers. This feature can significantly contribute to reducing air pollution and fuel consumption.
Given that these vehicles are imported and the recent fluctuations in currency prices, the final price of the hybrid vehicles is not yet determined. However, it is hoped that these vehicles will be provided to drivers of old taxis for an amount below 3 billion tomans or at most around 3 billion tomans.
