Somayeh Golpour, former president of the Supreme Council of Labor Associations, shared the reasons for her resignation. In a candid interview, she referred to the existing challenges regarding freedom of expression and government influence in labor organizations, stating that she prefers to remain a labor activist rather than sit in a meaningless presidential chair.

Why Did Somayeh Golpour Resign?

Golpour explained her resignation by saying: "In a situation where freedom of expression in organizations is severely restricted and unions have become disconnected from reality, I could no longer remain in such a role." She believes that workers should have their voices heard, and this real voice must be acknowledged in organizations. She emphasized that her goal in accepting the presidency was to improve the conditions for workers and create a free space to express problems, but this aspiration has not been realized due to existing obstacles.

The Necessity of Maintaining the Independence of Unions

Golpour also pointed out that unions must be kept away from government and power influences. She believes that to maintain the independence and bargaining power of workers, a space for dialogue and free expression of problems must be provided. This labor activist stressed that she will always stand by workers and will support them as a colleague and ally.

Golpour's resignation has raised the question in many minds whether other labor activists will also resign from their responsibilities due to existing restrictions. She hopes that this action will serve as a wake-up call for other members of organizations to think about preserving independence and freedom of expression in their unions.
