Significant autumn rainfall in Iran depends on a detailed examination of weather patterns and various factors. On Tuesday, October 7, 2026, the analysis of rainfall conditions is not limited to rainfall maps, but factors such as moisture transport, the position of the jet stream, and changes in atmospheric height also influence the formation of precipitation systems.

Atmospheric River and Its Importance

One of the important phenomena in this regard is the "atmospheric river." These long and narrow bands of moist air transport a large volume of water vapor over thousands of kilometers. When these flows encounter upward systems and suitable temperature conditions are present, significant rainfall can occur. However, it should be noted that the mere presence of moisture in the atmosphere does not mean the formation of an atmospheric river, and moisture transport maps need to be examined to confirm it.

The Role of Jet Stream in Weather Changes

Another factor that must be considered in the analysis of rainfall conditions is the "jet stream," or the fast-moving wind current in the upper atmosphere. Changes in the position of this current can alter the paths of low-pressure systems and weather troughs, which in turn affects rainfall. Troughs refer to a part of the airflow at mid-levels of the atmosphere, usually associated with cooler air and upward conditions. If these conditions coincide with sufficient moisture, the likelihood of rainfall significantly increases.

In northern Iran, moisture from the Caspian Sea and the interaction of air currents with the Alborz mountain range can create suitable conditions for cloud development and local showers. This phenomenon, known as "orographic lift," causes air to rise as it passes over high altitudes, cool down, and form clouds when it reaches saturation. Therefore, in these areas, local rainfall, especially in autumn days, is considered a prominent atmospheric feature.

The Impact of Weather Conditions on Other Regions

Conversely, subsidence in parts of central and southern Iran can limit cloud growth, contributing to the persistence of warm and dry conditions. This indicates that the change of season alone does not mean the onset of widespread rainfall. In fact, weather conditions must be considered simultaneously to make accurate predictions about rainfall.

As a result, a thorough and comprehensive examination of weather conditions and their impacts on rainfall allows us to delve deeper into autumn weather changes and related phenomena, thereby gaining a better understanding of weather patterns and precipitation.
