Shahram Shoaibi, the Director General of Natural, Traditional, Supplementary, and Infant Formula Products at the Food and Drug Organization, recently made important remarks regarding the supply of infant formula in the country. He stated that even in critical conditions and with increased population movement, there was no significant shortage in supplying the necessary infant formula to the people, and he thanked the distribution companies, medical universities, and food and drug departments for their cooperation in this regard.

New mechanism for supplying infant formula

Shoaibi explained that when receiving infant formula, a code is sent via text message to the individual, confirming that the recipient is the parent of the newborn. This mechanism is designed to ensure that infant formula reaches the actual consumer and to prevent it from entering the profit-making cycle.

Determining the infant formula quota for newborns

The Director General of Natural, Traditional, Supplementary, and Infant Formula Products at the Food and Drug Organization added: The infant formula quota for each newborn is determined separately and is non-transferable. He emphasized that the quota for a newborn who does not use infant formula for any reason will not be transferred to another newborn. For infants under 6 months, a specific quota is considered, and the usual consumption amount is also taken into account in determining the quota. For example, the usual consumption is about 8 bottles per month.

Shoaibi stressed the importance of this mechanism and stated that the goal of its implementation is to prevent the exit of infant formula from the official supply chain, control off-network supply, and reduce the possibility of abuse of the quota allocated to newborns. These actions demonstrate the efforts of officials to meet the basic needs of newborns and support families in these sensitive conditions.
