Roya Nonahali, returning to the theater stage, will perform in the role of 'Mama Elena' in the play 'Like Water for Chocolate', directed by Ebrahim Poshtkuhi, starting from October 5 at the 'Tamam-Natamam' Art House. This play, which has been on stage since 2012, will also reach the Baghdad Festival after its successful run in Iran.
Attention and Focus in Acting
Ebrahim Poshtkuhi, the director of this play, discusses the importance of focus and discipline in acting in an interview. He believes that Roya Nonahali's concentration during rehearsals and performances can serve as a valuable model for young actors. Poshtkuhi recalls how Nonahali would enter her own world during rehearsals by placing a chair in a corner of the stage and fully dedicating herself to her performance. This focus has made her a unique and exceptional actress who always commands the stage with power.
Poshtkuhi points out that while the new generation of actors possesses positive traits such as courage and passion, they need to work more on focus and discipline. He mentions the unprofessional behaviors of some actors who may be distracted by talking or checking their mobile phones during performances, considering this a disaster.
Gaining Skills and Enjoying Acting
Roya Nonahali, in response to questions about these changes in acting, says: "If someone gets lost on stage due to distraction, they are not yet an actor." She emphasizes that focus and attention are fundamental principles of acting, and an actor must master their body and expression to enjoy their work. Nonahali believes that true enjoyment comes after acquiring skills, and this enjoyment means performing with expertise and quality.
Poshtkuhi recalls a memory of Stanislavski, where at the age of 24, he practiced his articulation for an hour every day to keep his tongue agile. This reminder serves as a lesson for young actors that practice and discipline are essential for success.
Ultimately, the collaboration between Nonahali and Poshtkuhi for the performance of 'Like Water for Chocolate' took shape in Bandar Abbas, and despite her busy schedule, Nonahali went there for rehearsals. This collaboration reflects her love and commitment to the art of acting, and every time she takes the stage, she experiences the joy of being in this play.
