The reduction of migration among scientific Olympiad medalists is considered one of the significant successes in the country's educational system. Seyyed Reza Hosseini, the head of the Young Researchers Club, announced a significant decrease in the exodus of elites after winning medals, citing new statistics. This change reflects the positive impact of actions taken to retain top talents for the country's future.
Concerns About Elite Migration
The migration of elites is regarded as a serious challenge for the country's scientific and educational system, particularly raising concerns about the future of human capital among selected Olympiad students. In 2022, about 50% of the national biology Olympiad team members decided to migrate after participating in the global competitions and began their studies abroad. However, the current situation shows that the number of medalists who leave the country immediately after winning a medal for further education has nearly reached zero.
Actions of the Young Researchers Club
Seyyed Reza Hosseini stated in an exclusive interview that the migration of elites is an issue that goes beyond the authority of a specific organization and requires cooperation and coordination among various institutions. The Young Researchers Club, as one of the bodies responsible for identifying and nurturing top talents, strives to ensure the retention of elites in the country by creating a chain of support.
Hosseini also mentioned the employment of about 500 elites in the club and said: "This action helps maintain the connection of elites with the scientific environment of the country and provides the grounds for their retention in the country." According to him, this approach is designed to enhance the quality of scientific and specialized services to researchers.
Club Budget and Funding to Support Elites
Considering the importance of supporting elites, Hosseini referred to the club's budget of 335 billion tomans for the year 1405 and said: "About 35 billion tomans of this budget is allocated to medalists." This budget will cover expenses related to participation in global competitions, sending teams, training and preparing national teams, and developing the necessary infrastructure for researchers.
Finally, the head of the Young Researchers Club emphasized: "For talents to remain in the country and continue their scientific and professional paths within Iran, other organizations must also fulfill their responsibilities properly."
