Pope Leo, the young religious leader of Catholics, spent a peaceful night in the Gemelli Hospital in Rome following the diagnosis of lung adenocarcinoma. This diagnosis, made due to the presence of a mass in his lungs, caused astonishment and concern among his followers and the public. On Tuesday, doctors successfully removed part of his right lung that was affected by cancer.

Surgery Details

The surgery on Pope Leo lasted for 90 minutes, and the lead surgeon, Stefano Margaritora, along with his personal physician, Luigi Carbona, announced that the procedure was completed without any complications. According to the doctors, to completely remove the cancerous tissue, the entire lower lobe of Pope's right lung was removed. Human lungs consist of five lobes, with three lobes in the right lung and two lobes in the left lung.

As the Vatican has not released any information about the size of the tumor and the spread of the disease to nearby lymph nodes, concerns about his prognosis continue. This comes as Pope Leo is recognized as a relatively young religious leader who values sports and wellness.

General Condition and Implications

Pope Leo, who enjoys sports such as tennis, has no history of smoking or serious health issues. Now, following this surgery, his followers and those close to him are awaiting good news about his recovery. The Vatican has announced that more information about the Pope's condition will be released soon.

This incident, alongside other challenges faced by religious leaders, highlights the physical and mental pressures that may arise due to heavy responsibilities and social interactions. People from around the world are praying and hoping for his recovery.
