Pitso Mosimane, the former head coach of Esteghlal, introduced this team as one of the giants of the Middle East two years ago. He was appointed as the head coach of Esteghlal in the last days of Mehr 1403 after the team, under Sohrab Bakhtiari Zadeh, failed to achieve satisfactory results.
Controversial selection from South Africa
Mosimane, who is recognized as one of the successful coaches in Africa, joined Esteghlal with a contract worth $855,000. This selection, which seemed strange and unexpected to many experts, came with high expectations. Esteghlal, as one of the major teams in Iran, has always sought to attract experienced and efficient coaches, and Mosimane was presented as an attractive option.

However, Mosimane's record in Iran turned out in such a way that he ultimately could not meet expectations. He left Iran in winter 1403 after an unsuccessful performance, and this experience remained a memory for him. In an interview he had on November 3, 1403, with Idiski Times, he pointed out interesting aspects regarding Esteghlal and its challenges.
Coaching challenges at Esteghlal
Mosimane stated in this interview that Esteghlal, as one of the giants of the region, needs a long-term and sustainable strategy. He referred to the challenges present in Iranian football and said: "The world of football is always full of changes, and to succeed in this environment, teams must have the right strategies. Esteghlal, as a major brand, must move towards progress and development."
He also emphasized the importance of collaboration and support from the club management for the coaching staff, stating: "Without support and cooperation, no coach can succeed. Esteghlal needs stability in the coaching staff and precise planning to return to its true position." These statements reflect the challenges faced by coaches in Iranian football, who are often confronted with frequent changes and external pressures.
Ultimately, Pitso Mosimane's experiences at Esteghlal, while highlighting the significant challenges of Iranian football, serve as a reminder of the importance of competence, strategy, and support in any sports team. Can Esteghlal return to its golden days with the right choices and strategic planning? This is a question that remains in the minds of fans and experts of Iranian football.
